March Photo Challenge 2012

Wow. I was literally overwhelmed by the sudden email explosion asking about the 2012 March Photo Challenge. Thank you for all the tiny "kicks" as I wrapped up projects and put others away so that I could focus on the next 31 days of chaos. I got it. I'm on it. Here we go, yet again.
Rules this year have changed.
But we will get to that in a moment.

What this is.
The first time I decided to challenge a friend of mine to 31 days of themed photos was in 2005. It was just him and I. We decided to shoot them all in March as the idea struck in February, so why not. The rules were simple: each day you had 24 hours to shoot, edit and upload a themed shot based on a random last minute selection of words/ideas that popped into our heads, mostly at midnight prior to the day we had to start shooting. It was chaos. It was hell. I was more exhausted and spent than I ever could have imagined. Every year since, I have walked straight into that fire again.
Some years it has been open submissions, any time, catch up if you are behind. Others years it has taken on a last man standing, elimination game approach.
But one thing has never changed: the Challenge portion of it all.
A good friend coined it the March Photo Challenge because that is exactly what it is - a test of stability, commitment and endurance.
And I absolutely freaking, LOVE it. From what I understand, so do some others.
I hope you learn something. I hope you are inspired. I hope you think and see the world differently. I hope you step out of the box, and trot around it; break it down and rebuild it into a sphere.

Disclaimers and such.
Please. No negative commenting/flaming/harassment/in general jerkiness. Be kind. Keep in mind there are participants of all ages and skill levels.
Parents - this is a challenge that is open for individual interpretation and the bulk of people contributing are adults. If you think your child (or you) may be offended by imagery potentially posted, or commented on as a result of such, perhaps it is not suitable for them (or you) to participate. In past years, there have been themes interpreted of an adult nature e.g The theme "Disease" in which a photo was posted of someone doing a line of cocaine (it was fake of course) and the theme "Fear" in which I took a self portrait of myself bound with duct tape, a knife to my throat (the knife was held by a close friend).
Use your best judgement. Links to extremely violent/sexual imagery will be removed.
I cannot and will not direct or judge any artist, but you know - COMMON SENSE.
If you are offended at some point during the challenge, I am right here right now, apologizing ahead of time.
Sorry.

The Rules or whatever you call them.
The Challenge begins 12:01am EST, March 1st, 2012.
DO NOT use images shot prior to this day or time.
DO NOT post what you have not shot  or edited yourself. It would be extremely bad form.
The theme for the day will be posted automatically everyday 12:01am EST at www.marchphotochallenge.com
You have 24 hours to shoot, edit and upload (to Facebook, Google+ or your personal blog/website - see below). Wash, rinse, repeat.
31 days = 31 themes.
If you miss a day, don't worry. Just begin work on the next. This way everyone is working on the same theme for those 24 hours it is current.

SHARE YOUR UPLOAD!! Part of the fun is seeing your interpretation vs others, getting feedback and the in general moaning that happens around week 3. And with that...
COMMENT!! +1 the post, tell the artist what you like about the photos, share it, talk about it, immerse yourself in with others for the Challenge.

Where to upload.
There is no registering since I have eliminated the disqualification portion of the rules (maybe next year guys). So feel free to put it on your blog/site (and share), Facebook (and share), Google+ (and share)...

Facebook participants: There is a Facebook page set up for March Photo Challenge here: FACEBOOK PAGE
Make sure you have LIKE'd it. In order to display your upload on the page (so others will be able to see and comment on it): add it like you would on your profile. You can post direct and everyone will be able to see and comment.

Google+ participants: If you would like to be included in the March Photo Circle, indicate so by a +1 or comment on the posts about joining. I will share the circle prior to the start date. Post to the circle during the month and #MarchPhotoChallenge your submission for easy recall.

Anyone, everyone and all of the above: Post a comment on the Main Site's daily theme post with a link to your submission.

Post any questions in the comments below.

Good luck to you all - See you on the other side.
