First, a little about the Photo Challenge.
The first time I decided to challenge a friend of mine (Patrick) to 31 days of themed photos was in 2005. We decided to shoot them all in March as the idea struck in February, so why not. The rules were a bit different, each day you had 24 hours to shoot, edit and upload; there was no shooting ahead of schedule allowed and we decided on a full week of themes only a day before having to start shooting them.
It was hell. I was more exhausted and spent than I ever could have imagined.
But then again, and even with the rules changing to make it easier, every year I have done this it has been rough, draining, completely and utterly 'I might not ever pick up my camera again' nuts. A friend named it the March Photo Challenge several years ago because that is exactly what it is - a test of stability, commitment and endurance. A personal challenge.
And I absolutely freaking, LOVE it.
Over the course of 31 days that first year, my photography drastically changed. I saw the world in a new way and improved exponentially in skill. Pushing my limits became the ultimate addiction. Every year has taught me more and made me think and see differently. You will, not only step out of the box, but trot around it. You may even break it down and rebuild it into a sphere.
Having shared this with friends, them having now shared with others, year six of this Challenge for me means over half the participants are people I have never met and/or do not know. Somehow, that's pretty damn cool. I am excited to see this month progress for myself and others, and even more curious as to who will be left at the end of it all.
Now, a little about me.
I am 35 years young, a mother of two teens, full-time graphic designer and part-time artist, who likes to take photos for fun, for profit, and for no reason at all. I like puzzles and haikus, music and daydreaming. I post daily to a blog (which includes my nonsensical thoughts, short stories, recipes, chat logs, photos, art and design work, rants, and conversations with my byproducts) and in general do as much as I can to consistently create in whatever form appeals to me at the time.
And laugh. I love to laugh. LOUDLY. Some say I sound just like Snoopy when I do.
